Living close to the mountains is spectacular for a landscape photographer. A few weeks ago, I was traveling on the 22x near Calgary to capture a sunrise at Elbow Falls. After capturing the attached image, I drove about 1.5 miles further up and saw a young moose on the side of the road. My goal was not to photograph the animal but admire it! Be safe and enjoy life to the fullest!

Every couple of weeks, I venture to the Canadian Rockies (about 45 minutes) from my house. I love photographing sunrises because I have the entire place to myself. I don't have to worry about someone stepping in my frame. Also, it allows me to enjoy the moment and how grateful we are.
How do I usually compose my images? I typically research before heading out, but a lot of the time I don't. If I am going to photograph a sunrise, I make sure I know the position of the sun.
Once I have my location, I look at the scene and visualize before photographing it. I use the same equipment as everyone else; tripod, remote, filters, histogram, etc.). One thing I usually do to ensure that my images are super sharp, I focus stack my shots and them merge in Photoshop. You should read up on it, and you will see how your images are super sharp. Look at my images and zoom on them and you'll see what I mean.

Enjoy and until next time.

The Canadian Rockies offer exclusive views of mountain ranges, sunrises, sunsets, wildlife, great accommodations and amazing food. Early risers will have most areas to themselves. This image was taken at Lake Minnewanka, located a few miles from the town of Banff National Park. I love the moving clouds and the reflection in the water.

Have you ever visited Amsterdam? Such a beautiful city! This image was taken with my Nikon D750 early in the morning. With a cup of joe in one hand and my camera in the other hand. It was a bit difficult to manage but did very well. While trying not to get lost, I stumbled on this location. Sure glad I had my camera that morning!
